How to prevent oily skin from shining

By Laetitia Beretti
Teens are not the only ones with shiny oily skin. Here are some tips on how to deal with this issue.

What causes oily skin?
Excess sebum is responsible for oily skin. Other factors such as hormones, stress, pollution, tobacco, and alcohol can also lead to oily skin. As a result, it shines and doesn’t feel clean.

The right steps

Clean
Avoid sandblasting your skin! Why? Because you might stimulate the sebaceous glands and increase the production of sebum. The right cleansers for oily skin are purifying cleansing gels or micellar waters
Neostrata Nettoyant Micellaire
Hydrate
Moisturize without adding oil. Use products with gel or fluid textures, which contain absorbing powders and provide a soft, matte finish.
Vivier Skin Daily Moisturizing Cream
Exfoliate
Unclog your pores with a scrub only once or twice a week.
Skin TX Exfoliating Lotion
Purify
Cleanse the epidermis once a week with a clay mask.
Dr Hauschka Clarifying Clay Mask
Be Gentle
Be gentle! If you are too harsh, your skin might end up feeling tight and damaged. To avoid stripping the skin, alternate between a clay mask and a moisturizing mask.
Payot Multi-Hydrating
Makeup
It’s not easy to look fresh and radiant when your forehead or chin is shiny! Before applying your foundation, prepare your skin with a base that will improve dilated pores, even out skin tone, and make your makeup last longer. Choose a mattifying foundation that conceals imperfections. To hide shiny patches or touch up your look throughout the day, don’t forget to use a compact powder. If you don’t want to apply powder, use a powder foundation, which is highly practical.
